In our society today we are bombarded with millions of stimuli every second. Concentration practices are designed to help a person focus and become aware of things as they truly are. It is the first step in teaching mindfulness practice as it first allows one to open his or her mind. Seemingly contradictory, concentration allows a person to look out in all directions by first being able to stand in one place. It is not narrowing one's mind to a single point, but rather reaching a vantage point or focusing a lens from which everything can be seen clearly. |
